Bollywood chocolate boy-turned-hunk Shahid Kapoor is at his fittest best nowadays and is sporting a ripped body that can put the most committed of fitness freaks to shame. But his smoldering hot body and enviable six packs haven’t come to Shahid as a gift sent by a benevolent God. He has made them right here with hard work in the gym and an extremely strict diet that doesn’t allow even an inch of fat to be stored in the wrong place. Shahid is a strict vegetarian and according to his nutritionist and fitness expert Marika Johansson, he is also a ‘picky eater’.

Marika Johansson is also responsible for prepping the meals of other Bollywood celebs like Shraddha Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor. Johansson recently told vogue.in that it was challenge packing meals for Shahid as he prefers a fully vegetarian fare, but at the same time, he also needs a calculated balance of carbohydrates and proteins, along with low fat. Marika opts for vegan ingredients to meet the actor’s demands of high proteins in his meals. Tofu, beans, hemp and brown rice are Marika’s replacements for dairy and meat while prepping Shahid Kapoor’s meals. ALSO READ: Shahid Kapoor, Diana Penty and Swara Bhaskar dazzle at the Nykaa Femina Beauty Awards 2017

Tofu, or bean curd, is used by a lot of vegetarians who want to build muscle strength and want a fit body. It’s an excellent source of calcium and essential minerals like copper, manganese, selenium and phosphorus. It is also rich in proteins and Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Being a vegetarian, it becomes more crucial that Marika delivers all nine amino acids to Shahid through her meals, therefore she also includes brown rice and beans, along with tofu to be able to mix in all different kinds of proteins in the diet. Brown rice is rich in fiber and naturally occurring vitamins and minerals- compounds that are missing in processed products. ALSO READ: Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan Khatter is also a fitness freak- here’s proof!

Brown rice also make for the perfect post-workout meal ingredient as they are rich in good carbohydrates and proteins that are needed for muscle repair and regaining of strength after the work out. However, one particular dish by Johansson that Shahid really loves is the healthy dessert cassein chocolate pudding. “It’s a protein dish topped with nuts, seeds and fruits, and we send it to Kapoor almost every single day!”, Johansson told Vogue. Shahid has been on a diet that allows him to sustain all the energy for his work outs to gain muscle for some time now. ALSO READ: 6 times Rangoon star Shahid Kapoor looked dapper in Indo-western attire!

Thanks to all his hard work, we saw him in his super fit and incredibly ripped avatar in Udta Punjab and then Rangoon. He also eats every three or four hours to keep his metabolism high. No doubt about the fact that Shahid’s workouts are intensive as well, but a balanced diet has been equally important for him to be able to achieve his body goals.
