Are you on a strict diet? Do you crave for some crispy and delicious snacks in between you meals? Well, instead of reaching out for the bag of chips from your nearest vending machine, you can make your own healthy snack at home. Makhana is a popular fasting food that is low in calories. It is a good source of protein, fiber, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, iron and zinc. Since it is gluten free and the high fiber content it helps to improve your digestion. You can make a super easy and simple snack using makhana and few other easily available ingredients in your kitchen cabinet. You will need just 10-15 minutes to prepare two different types of makhana snacks. The recipe of this makhana preparation has been shared on Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra’s official YouTube channel. This snack just has 215 kcal per serving so it helps to satiate your hunger pangs and aids in weight loss. Here is the list of ingredients followed by the method of preparation. Ingredients for Plain Makhana:
1 ½ tablespoons Nutralite
1 tablespoon mustard seeds
10 to 20 curry leaves
2 to 3 green chilies
¼ cup roasted peanuts
¼ cup roasted Split Bengal gram (channa dal) 30g
1 ½ teaspoons turmeric powder
250 grams Makhana
Ingredients for Tangy Mint Makhana
2 teaspoons Nutralite pudina & coriander
2 teaspoons tomato powder
1 teaspoon mint powder
1 teaspoon cheese powder
In a deep frying pan add a dollop of nutralite butter and 1 tablespoon of mustard seeds. Once the mustard seeds starts crackling add the fresh curry leaves and green chilies.
Saute all the above mentioned ingredients and also toss in ¼ cup roasted peanuts and ¼ cup roasted Split Bengal gram. Mix all the ingredients well and add 1 ½ teaspoons turmeric powder, salt and pepper as per your taste. Add 250 grams of makhana into this and your healthy snack is ready to serve.
If you want to infuse more flavor to your snack you can make a different variation of the same snack by making it tangy. To the prepared makhana snack add 2 teaspoons of pudina & coriander flavored Nutralite, 2 teaspoons of tomato powder, 1 teaspoon of mint powder and 1 teaspoon of cheese powder. Mix well and serve in a bowl.
