Movie Review: RadioHimes bhai ain't cool
How can you describe a movie that fails so completely in every possible way, its mere existence leaves you flummoxed? Such is the predicament of Himes bhai's new film 'Radio', a stunningly gauche fragment of entertainment. What's worse is that 'Radio' is not even one of those so-bad-its-good films, like 'Deshdrohi' and the Citizen Kane of Bollywood, 'Goonda'. The main problem here is that 'star' Himesh Reshamiya tried to act, he tries to muster up a whole range of emotions. No one wants to see him act, everyone loves him because of his songs, and his awesome nasal twang. 'Aap ka suroor' worked because of the soundtrack and Himes bhai's stage performances in it. 'Radio' falls flat because it has none of the same. The story is very, very complicated. For one, 'Radio' is about modern relationships, and since Himes bhai doesn't resemble Brad Pitt, it is hard to digest the fact that two saucy, intelligent girls have the hots for him. Radio jockey Himes bhai is married to hottie #1 (Sonal Sehgal) but their marriage is cracking and love is fast evaporating. Along comes hottie #2 (former MTV VJ Shehnaz) who immediately has first dibs on Himes bhai. To add to the masala both hotties get acquainted with one another and eventually become best buds. And hotties 1 and 2 are both so pure at heart and forgiving that they make Gandhi look bad - each loves Himes bhai so much they try to set him up with the other. As expected, there are a zillion pop culture references, including Facebook. And as per the latest fad of the 'new-age-youthful-motion-pictures', 'Radio' plays out chapter-wise. It's depressing enough to sit through a badly-acted movie, but it's worse to watch Himesh, Shehnaz and Sonal having to earn a living like this, hamming away to glory.
