Happy 25th Birthday, Katrina Kaif!Bollywood's biggest brand
Katrina’s debut film ‘Boom’ (2003) went bust at box office but she grabbed many eyeballs in a scene in which she takes off her shirt to flaunt a shimmering bra that left Gulshan Grover, and the audiences, drooling. After that Katrina played a brief role in Ramgopal Varma’s ‘Sarkar’ (2004). ‘Maine Pyaar Kyon Kiya’ (2005) was her first successful Bollywood film co-starring her beau Salman Khan. Interestingly, in the film, Salman’s character ends up choosing Sushmita Sen over her. Katrina’s rise to super-stardom truly began with the string of films she did with Akshay Kumar. But the duo’s first film, Humko Deewana Kar Gaye (2005), however, was a flop. The film that turned the tide for Katrina was ‘Namastey London’ (2006) in which she played a spoilt Londoner boozing out her nights in pubs. In the same year she paired with Bobby Deol in ‘Apne’. Katrina became the love interest of Govinda in David Dhawan’s comedy film ‘Partner’ (2007). In the film, Salman was the love guru who guided Govinda in wooing Kat. Kat’s jodi with Akshay became successful yet again in ‘Welcome’ (2007) even though she had little to do than just look glamourous and shake her booty with Akki. After a few months, she paired with Akshay once again in the blockbuster ‘Singh Is Kinng’. Her successful run continued with the gritty thriller ‘Race’ in which she played a sassy secretary who had a secret fling going on with her boss’s greedy brother. She turned into a cello player in Subhash Ghai’s ‘Yuvvraaj’ in which she was paired with Salman. Though the film bombed, Katrina showed glimpses of an actress getting in her groove. Those who thought she can only look pretty and not act were proved wrong in her last film ‘New York’ in which she played the wife of a man running a covert terrorist cell in the US. We wish Katrina Kaif a Happy birthday! August 27, 2009
