Hindi movie 'Kavi' nominated for an OscarBest Short Film (live action)
Time for another 'Slumdog'-like film to sweep the Oscars - 'Kavi', a Hindi film has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Short Film (Live Action). 'Kavi' is a 15-minute film directed by Gregg Helvey, the story revolves around the protagonist, an Indian boy and his parents 'who are forced to work as slave labor in a brick kiln'. 'Kavi' was made on a shoestring budget ($30,000) and was shot over a span of eight days in Wai. According to Kavi's official website this short film is the basis for a feature length version which is under development, and that the makers are currently speaking to investors about financing. A few years ago the documentary 'Born in Brothels', which was set in Kolkata won the Oscar for Best Documentary. Watch the trailer of 'Kavi' below.
