Ghaziabad, Oct 11 (PTI) A group of 19 delegates from the BIMSTEC nations today attended a two-day workshop on disaster management organised at the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) base here, an official said today.

The programme, chaired by NDRF Director General Sanjay Kumar, will culminate tomorrow, SP (city) Akash Tomar said.

The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), is sub-regional grouping of South Asia and South East Asian countries — India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal.

According to NDRF Inspector General Ravi Josef Loku, the workshop is being organised to exchange the techniques to rescue people in case of a disaster.

Our government plans to enhance the skill and capabilities of the NDRF so that we can help the South Asian countries also in case of a disaster, he said.

In 2011, 46-member NDRF team visited Japan to provide relief to Tsunami-hit Onagawa town, Loku said.
