Dharamshala, Mar 28 (PTI) The state Congress today said it will submit a memorandum to the President against any move to shift the majority of campus of the proposed Central University of Himachal Pradesh to Dehra from Dharamshala.

Dehra, about 70 kilometres from Dharamshala, in Kangra district falls under the constituency of BJP MP Anuraag Thakur.

The university campuses are to be constructed in Dehra and Dharamshala. The matter had been hanging in the balance for the past eight years as the BJP wants 70 per cent of the campus in Dehra and the rest in Dharamshala, while the Congress wants majority of the campuses in Dharamshala.

“It is the right of Dharamshala to have the major portion of Central University of Himachal Pradesh. The land was made available by our government in Dharamshala,” Congress leader Sudhir Sharma said.

Sharma said party leaders would submit a memorandum to the President – through Kangra deputy commissioner – in support of the demand.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur yesterday said that the work on establishing the university campuses at Dehra in Kangra district would be started with in next two months.

Thakur said that this project had suffered a lot due to the negative politics of the previous government in the state. He said he had a detailed discussion on this issue with Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar.

On Monday, Anuraag Thakur said the long-awaited laying of foundation stone of the university would be done within three months at Dehra.
