Colombo, Mar 24 (PTI) India has handed over a second advanced offshore patrol vessel (AOPV) constructed at the Goa Shipyard to the Sri Lankan Navy.
The vessel was officially handed over to the Sri Lankan Navy Chief Rear Admiral Neil Rosayro on Thursday in the presence of the Sri Lankan high commissioner to India, and the chairman and managing director of Goa Shipyard.
The construction work of this AOPV commenced in 2014 and the state-of-the-art vessel is capable of conducting patrols, policing, reconnaissance, surveillance, search and rescue, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) and pollution control missions in Sri Lanka’s maritime zones.
The navy said the delivery came much ahead of schedule.
