New Delhi, Oct 12 (PTI) Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan today recalled socialist icon Ram Manohar Lohia’s work to empower backward castes and women, and his push for use of Hindi as he paid rich tributes on his 50th death anniversary.
The LJP chief remembered Lohia fondly at an event and was joined by several party leaders and workers, a statement said.
Lohia was known for his patriotism and socialist ideas.
He had stressed on the need to give priority to Hindi over English as the country’s official language, Paswan said.
He struggled relentlessly to bridge the divide between the rich and the poor, to empower backward castes and women, to remove use of English and to clean rivers, Paswan said, adding that those issues remain relevant.
