Valletta, June 18 (IANS) Malta on Sunday denied that Saudi Arabia has severed diplomatic ties with the island nation, stating the ties remain as strong as ever.
The statement was prompted following an online report that appeared on fox-news24.com, claiming that Saudi Arabia had cut off ties with Malta over its friendship with Qatar, Xinhua reported.
Foreign Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said the remarks attributed to him in the report, or any other remarks on the situation concerning Saudi Arabia and Qatar are “completely false”.
There is currently tension between Qatar and its immediate neighbours, led by Saudi Arabia, who say Qatar is turning a blind eye to terrorism financiers. Qatar denies these claims.
