Coimbatore, Nov 15 (PTI) A man was injured by an elephant, which was being driven into the jungles today by Forest Department officials on the city’s outskirts Based on a complaint by residents of Maruthamalai area that an elephant and its calf had strayed into human habitation, the officials took efforts to drive the animals into the jungles.

The elephant strayed into Somayampalayam, behind Bharathiar University and attacked 34-year old Suresh, who had come out to answer nature’s call at around 6 a.m, department sources said.

The man sustained minor injuries in the attack and and has been admitted to the government hospital here, where he is recovering, they said.

After toiling for newly two hours, Forest officials managed to drive away the elephants into the jungles.
