Gurgaon, Apr 3 (PTI) In a bid to crack down on over 1,500 illegal meat shops operating here, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) today served them notices to shut down all commercial activities.
The move came on the direction of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, officials said.
Gurgaon, with a population of over 25 lakh, has only 129 authorised meat shops.
“The licences of 129 authorised shops had lapsed on March 31 and apart from their renewals, no fresh licences were issued,” Dr Ashish Singla, medical officer of MCG, said.
“We have served notices on illegal shop owners who did not having licences to run commercial outlets for slaughtering and selling meat of chicken, goat and fish in Gurgaon,” he added.
