Kolkata, Oct 12 (PTI) The Nationalist Trinamool Congress (NTC), which had allegedly been set up by former TMC leader Mukul Roy, today said he could not be trusted as a politician and it would write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah urging them not to induct him into their party.
NTC president Amitabha Majumdar said his party was the “brainchild” of Roy.
“The NTC was his brainchild. He thought of it to teach Mamata Banerjee a lesson when he was stripped off the post of Trinamool Congress general secretary. But when Roy went back to TMC, he betrayed our entire leadership and our party supporters,” Majumdar told PTI.
“Mukul Roy cannot be trusted. He betrayed us, he will betray the BJP too,” he said.
A section of TMC leaders who moved away from the party after Roy’s removal as its general secretary in February 2015 had applied to the Election Commission seeking the registration of a new party named the Nationalist Trinamool Congress (NTC).
The NTC had even decided to contest the 2016 Assembly polls but could not do so after Roy returned to the TMC and was appointed its vice president.
“NTC is a registered party but it is not recognised as it did not contest any election. We will write a letter to Prime Minister Modi and BJP president Shah requesting them not to induct a person like Roy into their party,” Majumdar said.
Roy was unavailable for comments.
“We have neither received any request from him (Roy) nor will we induct him into the party,” Majumdar said.
According to Majumdar, plans to merge NTC with the All India Trinamool Congress in February 2016 could not take place due to technical reasons.
A day after quitting the Trinamool Congress and his Rajya Sabha seat, Roy today said he had no plans to float a new political party.
