New Delhi, Apr 13 (PTI) The NDMC has decided to register weekly market venders so that they can get easy bank loans and not face harassment at the hands of authorities, North Delhi Mayor Preety Agarwal today said.

The registration will be done by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation under the amended Street Vendors Act, 2014, the NDMC said in a statement.

“Special schemes will be formed by the NDMC for traders, street vendors and consumers of weekly markets. Work is under progress on introducing the scheme of ‘Navodaya Bazaars’/ smart wheel and smart bazaar,” she said.

Under the new rules, the only NDMC can register them and issue license to street vendors, the civic body said in a statement.

Agarwal said once the tehbazari fees is revised, the NDMC can earn estimated annual revenue of over Rs 27 crore in the financial year 2018-19.

Registration of street vendors of weekly bazaar and issuing them license will help bring transparency in the system other then saving the vendors from corruption and harassment, she said.

Agarwal said the weekly markets play an important role in providing livelihood to hundreds of small vendors and fulfilling the needs of local residents.
