Mumbai, Apr 16 (PTI) The NSE Nifty continued its winning

streak for the eight straight session to close above the 10,500 level following buying in realty, pharma, FMCG, Infra and

bank stocks.

The broader Nifty 50 index rose 47.75 points or 0.46 per cent to close at 10,528.35, its highest closing level since 27 February 2018. It moved in a range of 10,540.15 and 10,396.35 during the day.

Overseas, Asia and European stocks were mixed as investors assess airstrikes against Syria over the weekend and focus on the start of earnings season in the US as well as speeches by Federal Reserve officials.

Sector-wise, realty rose by 1.63 per cent followed by pharma 1.56 per cent, FMCG 1.50 per cent, financial services 0.84 per cent, infra 0.65 per cent, private bank 0.57 per cent, bank

0.48 per cent, media 0.36 per cent, auto 0.35 per cent, metal

0.16 per cent and energy 0.03 per cent.

On the other hand, PSU Bank and IT fell by 0.79 and

0.43 per cent, respectively.

Major index gainers were Cipla, Grasim, HeroMotoCo,

UPL, IbulHsgFin, Kotak Bank, Bajaj Auto and M&M.

The losers were Tata Motors, Infosys, Wipro, SBIN,

HindPetro, TechM, ONGC, BhartiAirtel and GAIL.

The market breadth, indicating its overall health, was

in favour of losers. On the NSE, 865 stocks advanced, 954

declined and 79 remained unchanged. Total securities that hit

their price bands were 175.

Turnover in the cash segment eased to Rs 27,754.74

crore from Rs 29,219.70 crore as on last Friday.

A total of 12,222.79 lakh shares changed hands in

93,48,187 trades. The market capitalisation of listed firms

on NSE stood at Rs 1,47,49,405.74 crore.
