Islamabad, Jul 17 (PTI) Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today discussed with his top advisers a counter strategy to respond to the opposition parties’ demands for his resignation following the first hearing of the Panama case after the submission of a JIT report in the Supreme Court.
Sharif chaired a consultative meeting which was attended by federal ministers, advisers and special assistants to the prime minister at the PM House.
The premier’s legal team also briefed him on today’s hearing.
“The meeting discussed a counter strategy to respond to the opposition parties’ protest policy,” The News reported.
A six-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) set up by the Supreme Court to investigate charges of money laundering against 67-year-old Sharif and his family had submitted the report on July 10 to the court.
During today’s hearing, the counsels of petitioners – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Awami Muslim League (AML) – pleaded Sharif’s disqualification.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan today alleged Sharif family of speaking lies in the apex court and before the probe team.
“They (Sharifs) submitted fake documents in the Supreme Court and to the investigation team,” Khan said, adding that there should be criminal cases registered against Sharif.
Khan said the Sharif family has got nothing to say in its defence pertaining to the Panama Leaks case.
Last year, the Panama Papers revealed that three of Prime Minister Sharif’s children owned offshore companies and assets not shown on his family’s wealth statement. The assets in question include four expensive flats in Park Lane, London.
The top court took up the case in October last year.
