Jammu, Nov 14 (PTI) Hundreds of part-time workers today protested in front of the divisional commissioner’s office here, demanding regularisation of over 60,000 such people who are working in various government departments in Jammu and Kashmir.

Trade union leader Gafoor Dar, who led over 400 protesters, accused the state government of dilly-dallying, despite announcing in the Assembly, during the budget session in January this year, that it will formulate a regularisation policy.

Similarly, Dar rued, the government did not fulfil its promise of setting up wage heads for providing smooth monthly salaries to these workers, who, according to him, have not been paid wages for months.

Dar asked the government to immediately announce policy of regularisation for over 60,000 daily wagers and casual workers of various government departments.

He also demanded that the wages of anganwadi workers be more than doubled from a meagre Rs 3,700 to Rs 8,000-9,000.

In case the government fails to announce such measures, Dar warned of district-wide protests in the state during the coming Assembly session in January.
