Salem, May 20 (PTI) Demonetised currency notes, in denomination of Rs 1000 and 500, were recovered in a shredded condition at Athur in this district, police said today.
They said the notes were found at the corner of a road, where branches of State Bank of India, State Bank of Mysore and Salem District Cooperative Central Bank are located.
The notes had been shredded using machines, they said.
Police said they had received a complaint from the locals following which they recovered the notes.
Some of the shredded currency pieces had been burnt, police said adding investigations were on.
