New Delhi, Jul 10 (PTI) Metals and mining baron Anil Agarwal has expressed grief over the demise of Naresh Chandra who was independent director of Vedanta Limited.

“The unfortunate demise of Naresh Chandra is a personal loss. A statesman and a visionary, Chandra was instrumental in the industrial reforms and progressive policies during his stint as a Cabinet Secretary,” Agarwal said in a statement.

“His joining the Vedanta Board in 2004 was a turning point for us, as he brought his immense global experience and perspective to nation building especially his shared passion for the country to be self-reliant in natural resources, giving back to the community,” the Vedanta Resources Plc Group Chairman said.

Meanwhile, in a BSE filing, Gammon Infrastructure Projects Ltd also expressed grief over Chandra’s death.

He was Chairman of Gammon Infrastructure Projects Ltd.

“We regret to inform about the sad demise of Naresh Chandra, Chairman of the company on July 9, 2017. All the senior members / employees of the Company including the Board of Directors express their profound grief and sorrow on the sad demise of Naresh Chandra,” the company said.

Chandra, former Indian Ambassador to the US, died at a private hospital in Goa last night due to multiple organ failure.
