Chandigarh, Apr 5 (PTI) Wheat procurement has begun in Haryana for the current season and the crop has started to arrive in various ‘mandis’ of the state.

Wheat is being procured at Minimum Support Price of Rs 1,735, a spokesman of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department said here.

He said that out of the total wheat arrival until Tuesday, government agencies have procured 587 metric tonnes of the crop, 19 metric tonnes by Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, 65 metric tonnes by Hafed, 10 metric tonnes Food Corporation of India, and 493 metric tonnes by Haryana Warehousing Corporation.

The spokesperson said that so far, 493 metric tonnes of wheat has been procured in Ambala and 84 metric tonnes in Kurukshetra.

The current wheat procurement season began on April 1.

Notably, the Haryana government had earlier said it had made all the arrangements for the procurement of around 80 lakh tonnes of wheat at the minimum support price for the current Rabi season 2018 as compared to 74.25 lakh quintal tonnes procured at the MSP of Rs 1,625 during last Rabi season.

Through the finance department, Rs 4,900 crore have been made available from RBI for procurement.
