With Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressing the need to move to a cashless economy, Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao today directed all Vice- Chancellors/Registrars in the state to shift to electronic transfers and e-payments for day-to-day activities of universities and affiliated colleges.
“These efforts are being introduced in line with the vision of creating a cashless society by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” a Raj Bhavan release said.
For enabling a smooth transition to a cashless society, Modi had appealed to the youth to educate 10 families daily on how to conduct cashless transactions through mobile apps, mobile banking, debit and credit cards, it said, adding, “The Governor has advised the student community to educate their family and neighbours for transforming India into a digital one.”
The Governor has stressed the need for creating awareness about different methodologies through which transactions can be done electronically in universities and colleges.
He has instructed higher educational institutions and universities to draw up a detailed time-bound strategy involving all stakeholders and has asked for a detailed report in this regard, the statement said
