The Dahi Handi celebration has begun in Mumbai where human pyramids are being made. On the eve of Dahi Handi curd, butter, and money are put in a clay pot. The clay pots are hung high up on the top and human pyramids are made by devotees to break the pot. The Dahi Handi tradition is celebrated to mark Lord Krishna’s childhood notoriety. People believe that Krishna used to steal butter from neighbourhood homes making human pyramids with the help of his friends. The colourful and unique Dahi Handi celebration is a trademark of Maharashtra’s culture.

This year the Dahi Handi festival might not be as exciting as it used to be because the Supreme Court has ruled that the human pyramid should not cross the limit of 20 feet.
