New Delhi, September 17: A 4.4 magnitude earthquake recorded on the Richter Scale hit the Andaman Islands on Sunday evening. According to official confirmation, the tremors were felt at the Andaman Islands at around 8:18 pm, news agency ANI reported. No report of any casualty came forward until this report was first published. More details are awaited. The government has issued a high alert in the region.

There are no reports of any casualties or damage of property in the tourist region.

As per the predictions of India Meteorological Department, the Andaman Islands are likely to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places. Meanwhile, the government had issued a standby alert.

In the month of May, an earthquake of magnitude 4.4 had hit Andaman in which there was no report’s of loss of life or damage to property came forward.
