New Delhi, October 13: Even though Rajesh Talwar and his wife Nupur were acquitted by the Allahabad High Court in the twin murder case of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj on Thursday, the dentist couple will not walk out of the jail on Friday. “Rajesh and Nupur Talwar not to be released from Dasna jail today,” Talwars’ lawyer Tanvir Mir Ahmed said.

The reason behind the delay is believed to be a copy of the verdict that has not yet been delivered to prison officials, NDTV reported. A signed copy of the judgement will have to be hand-delivered before the Talwars are freed and the weekend will delay the process, said jail official Dadhiram Maurya.

“I have never released anyone on the basis of a faxed or emailed order, we need a hand-delivered order,” he said, “the delay is not by the jail but by the court.”

As it is a weekend, Talwars are now most likely to be released on Monday.

The couple has been serving life sentence at Ghaziabad’s Dasna Jail. The high court verdict came after a nine-year ordeal of the parents who were found guilty by a CBI court of murdering 14-year-old Aarushi in a fit of rage.

A division bench of the court comprising Justices BK Narayana and AK Mishra had upheld the Talwars’ appeal against the CBI court order sentencing them to life on November 26, 2013.

Aarushi was found dead inside her room in the Talwars’ Noida residence with her throat slit in May 2008. The needle of suspicion had initially moved towards domestic help 45-year-old Hemraj, who had gone missing but his body was also recovered from the terrace of the house two days later.
