An Air Force commando, who was also part of the operation, lost his life. A CRPF jawan was also injured and admitted to the hospital. The encounter ended at around 6:50 pm on Saturday, following which internet services in the valley was suspended.

“The encounter is now finished and was a success. Total of six LeT terrorists eliminated. Weapons and ammunition recovered. One of the terrorists named Owaid is a son of Zakir Rehman Maki and nephew of Zakir Rehman Lakhbi (mastermind of Mumbai terror attacks),” Jammu and Kashmir police chief SP Vaid said, calling the encounter a “huge success” for security forces.

The officers involved in the operation had first surrounded Chandergeer village in Bandipora districts Hajin area, following specific information about the presence of terrorists there.
