Air India flight’s tyre bursts, makes emergency landing at Delhi’s IGI airport

Twice within a week, Air India flight faced a tyre burst last evening and made an emergency landing at the Indira Gandhi International airport (IGI).

Air India flight's tyre bursts, makes emergency landing at Delhi’s IGI airport

New Delhi, Oct 24: Air India flight AI-472 faced a tyre burst last evening and made an emergency landing at the Indira Gandhi International airport (IGI). The incident happened during the taking off from Udaipur. The airbus carried 108 passengers and crew members onboard. As per reports all the passengers and crew members are safe. The aircraft (Airbus 319 operating as flight no AI-472) took off at about 7:20 pm from Udaipur’s Maharana Pratap international Airport and just then a loud bang was heard, officials said. The incident was witnessed by CISF’s watch tower unit at Udaipur and the air traffic control (ATC) tower was intimated immediately, they said.

As per reports, soon after it was reported that an inspection team was rushed to the runway. Fragments of a tyre were found on the runway, following which the pilot of the plane was alerted and also the Delhi airport, for a possible emergency landing. “The flight, however, landed safely and all passengers and crew are safe,” an Air India spokesperson said. Last week, in similar incident, An Air India plane carrying 128 passengers and crew members from Ahmedabad suffered a tyre burst while landing at Mumbai airport. The Passengers and crew members were reported safe. As per reports by PTI, the Airbus A320 aircraft was to fly to Raipur as AI 651, the spokesperson said, adding the airline has already pressed into service another aircraft to fly the passengers to their destination. “Air India flight AI 614 from Ahmedabad for Mumbai with 128 passengers and crew members suffered a tyre burst at 0904 hours during landing at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport today,” the spokesperson said.(ALSO READ: Air India posts Rs 105 crore operating profit, first time in 10 years)

In July, passengers escaped unhurt as Air India flight’s tyre burst while landing at Srinagar airport. Over 130 passengers were on board but no one was injured when the mishap. As per reports, the Air India flight AI 3821 was, reportedly, a chartered flight carrying security personnel from Jammu to Srinagar.
