Srinagar, July 16: In an accident on Jammu Srinagar National Highway, sixteen people who were on a pilgrimage to the Amarnath shrine have lost their lives. The bus carrying these pilgrims fell into a gorge along the highway this afternoon. People who are injured in the accident are taken to Jammu for treatment. The accident took place in Ramban along the highway.
The bus skidded off the road and rolled down into a ravine. Senior Superintendent of Police in the region, Mohan Lal said that the rescue operation was underway. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah, and Biju Janata Dal member Rabindra Kumar Jena took to Twitter to share their condolences to those who lost their lives and are injured in the accident.
PM Modi tweets, ‘Extremely pained by the loss of lives of Amarnath Yatris due to a bus accident in J&K. My thoughts are with the families of the deceased.’ He also tweeted for soon recovery of those who are injured in the accident. Rajnath Singh writes, ‘My heart goes out to the families of Amarnath Yatris who lost their loved ones in the bus accident. My prayers are with the injured.’
Amit Shah tweets, ‘Deeply pained to know about the tragic road accident of a bus carrying Shri Amarnath pilgrims. My thoughts are with the bereaved families.’
Rabindra Kumar Jena shares on Twitter, ‘Saddened to learn of loss of lives of #Amarnath Yatris due to a bus accident in #J&K. My prayers are with the bereaved families.’
For the Amarnath Yatra, at least 2.30 lakh pilgrims have registered for the 40-day long yatra which started from the twin routes of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district. The yatra will culminate on August 7.
