New Delhi, Nov 14:  Nearly a month after Hindu outfit leader Vipan Sharma was shot dead, dreaded gangster and the prime accused in the murder case confessed to his crime in his alleged Facebook post and claimed that he killed the right-wing leader in Punjab’s Amritsar last month.

“I want to tell my friends that the murder of Vipan Sharma which took place on October 30 on Amritsar-Batala road was committed by me. His killing should not be linked with any religion,” said the alleged Facebook post by accused Saraj Sandhu.

In his post, Sandhu held Sharma responsible for the death of his friend’s father, who was a cop. Taking note of the post, the Amritsar Police has written to cyber crime cell to verify the authenticity of the purported claim made on the social networking site.

“We are verifying whether the gangster has uploaded the post or someone else has done it for him. He must be in touch with some people,” a news agency quoted a police source as saying.

Earlier on October 30, a  Hindu outfit leader was shot dead in full public view by four unidentified men in the Bharat Nagar locality on the Amritsar-Batala road in Amritsar. The incident took place when 45-year-old Hindu Sangarsh Sena district chief was standing with a friend outside a shop in the bustling Bharat Nagar locality when around a dozen bullets were pumped into him.
