Amravati, July 4: Andhra Pradesh Excise Minister KS Jawahar in his statement on Tuesday termed beer as a healthy drink. Explaining about Andhra Pradesh’s new Excise policy he used a bizarre statement on a TV talk show which aired on a regional channel where he said, “Beer is a health drink” and that’s why his government is promoting its sale in the state.”

Andhra Pradesh will be following a new excise policy from July 1 in which they have increased 10 percent in prices every year for the bars which were started five years back. Also, the state government has plans of setting up round the clock beer parlours to attract foreigners to tourist spots in the state.

Meanwhile, the government is promoting liquor as a healthy product in Andhra Pradesh.  Some of the excise ministers also promoting ‘liquor’ calling it ‘healthy’ many of the villagers especially women attacked some of the liquor shops in Atmakur of Nellore.

Furious over the opening of the liquor stores in Andhra Pradesh some of the women organisations are now criticising Jawahar’s statement and saying that they will protest against the opening of liquor shops.

The shop was allegedly opened with the support of ruling Telugu Desam Party leader ignoring the protest and concerns of locals. The state excise minister KS Jawahar himself will come from Nellore where the violent protest erupted.
