New Delhi, July 18: In what could be called as big changes in Aam Aadmi Party’s cabinet, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal might relieve Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia of his duties in the critical revenue department and hand him over the tourism department to give Delhi a momentum through tourism. Manish Sisodia is also likely to get relieved from the duties of registrar of cooperative societies. Kejriwal will be reallocating work in the Delhi cabinet, reportedly to focus on the areas which the AAP government has marked out as its priorities and to make Delhi essential to the government’s development plan.
Currently, Manish Sisodia has education, finance, planning, revenue, land and building, vigilance, services, women and child development, and registrar of cooperative societies. He also takes care of all the other departments that are not specifically allotted to any other minister. Gahlot, whose current list of portfolios include charge of law, transport, administrative reforms, and information and technology, will get a major boost in his profile in the revenue department. Gahlot’s responsibilities will place him in the main areas of the Delhi. In fact, since his induction in the cabinet, he was described as Kejriwal’s choice for being the face of rural Delhi in the government.
After Gahlot’s induction in the cabinet, Sisodia’s law department, information technology, and administrative reforms were handed over to him as Sisodia wanted to focus on education.
As for Sisodia’s current responsibilities, the critical revenue department is now likely to be handled by law and transport minister Kailash Gahlot, and the registrar of cooperative societies duties will be taken care of by Rajendra Gautam, according to the reports. While the reports have it that education and health will continue to be the Delhi government’s one of the main concerns, some of the other departments are also likely to get more focus with the sudden change in the cabinet reshuffle.
While most of the work was divided between Sisodia and Satyendra Jain when AAP came to power in Delhi, Kailash Gahlot is being projected as a strong rural face in Delhi, However, Sisodia will continue to drive the initiatives to showcase the government’s performance. With the reins of tourism in Sisodia’s hands, the department, in future, will emerge as an important focus area to showcase Delhi.
Satyendra Jain will continue to hold the health, home, power, urban development, industries and PWD departments. According to the reports, Gopal Rai, who was made AAP and Delhi convener after the Delhi Municipal Elections, will also stay in the labour, employment, development, general administration and flood and irrigation departments.
