Ayodhya, Sept 16: The head of Nirmohi Akhara Mahant Bhaskar Das died on Saturday early morning after he suffered a heart attack. He was 88 years old. According to reports, Das had already suffered two attacks in the year 2003 and 2007. He collapsed following the third heart attack. He was the chief litigant in the Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid case.
Reports say that Das was admitted to Harshan Hridaya Sansthan in Faizabad on Wednesday night. There he was kept in the intensive care unit (ICU) under the observation of Dr Arun Kumar Jaiswal. He breathed his last around 3 am Saturday.
According to Hindustan Times report, his body has been placed at the Naka Hanuman Gadhi for people to pay tributes. His mortal remains will be cremated on the banks of the Saryu river in Ayodhya.
Born in 1929 in Ranideeh of Gorakhpur, Mahant Bhaskar Das came to Ayodhya in the year 1946. He became a part of the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid Case in 1949. He was also the mahant of the Naka Hanuman Gadhi in Ayodhya of Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh.
