Mumbai, May 17: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev met Maharashtra Navnirman Sena President Raj Thackeray at his residence ‘Krishna Kunj’ in Dadar on Wednesday morning. Setting aside any speculations after the surprise meeting between Baba Ramdev and Raj Thackeray, an MNS official claimed that it was a mere ‘courtesy visit’ as the yoga guru was in Mumbai. Raj Thackeray, it is learnt, hailed Baba Ramdev for promoting Hindu traditions like yoga. It was not revealed what they discussed during the half an hour-long meeting.
“It was great meeting Baba Ramdev. He is the biggest global evangelist of Hindu traditions of yoga and ayurveda that India has seen,” Raj Thackeray told media after the meeting. Before appearing for photo ops, Raj Thackeray and Ramdev reportedly discussed their interests – yoga and politics – in their cordial meeting. The MNS chief is said to have lauded Ramdev’s efforts to promote yoga and also ayurveda globally, through his FMCG firm Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. Ramdev or Patanjali didn’t comment on the meeting.
Notably, Raj Thackeray, who has been critical of Baba Ramdev, received the guru with a warm hug at his doorstep. Baba Ramdev is in the process of expanding his Patanjali empire in Maharashtra.
