BJP demands explanation about Salman Khurshid's statement

New Delhi, Nov. 14 : Responding to the former foreign minister and key congress leader Salman Khurshid’s slamming BJP for ignoring Pakistan’s peace overtures in Islamabad on Thursday, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday said that the Congress dispensation should explain if this is Khurshid’s statement or the party’s view. “Salman Khurshid should remind of the fact that government of India does not represent any party and domestic politics should not be carried to foreign nation because it demeans the people of India and ethos of India. The congress dispensation should explain if this is Salman Khurshid’s statement or this is what the congress means,” said BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra to ANI. Patra added that Sonia Gandhi should explain and apologize  “He not only praises the Pakistani Prime Minister and Pakistani government that it is trying its best to fight terrorism, to spread peace in the south east Asia, but the Indian Government is not reacting to these offers by the Pakistani Government. And his statement that PM Modi is yet to become a statesman, by Salman Khurshid is absolutely appalling,” he added.

Patra further added that his statement only means to abuse the ethos of peace loving India. Former external affairs minister and senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid was all praise for Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif even as he lashed out at Prime Minister Modi during his invitation lecture at the Jinnah Institute in Islamabad on Thursday.

Khurshid, criticised the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for adopting a tough stand towards Pakistan and said “when congress was in power, BJP had been pressuring it to normalise ties withPakistan”. Khurshid said it was courageous, brave and far-sighted of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to attend Indian counterpart Narendra Modi’s oath-taking ceremony in May 2013. “However, the BJP led-government in India has failed to adequately reciprocate Islamabad’s peace overtures.” said Khurshid.
