Lucknow, April 16: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) MP from Unnao, Sakshi Maharaj inaugurated a night club in Uttar Pradesh’s capital city Lucknow yesterday. Sakshi Maharaj courted controversy after he inaugurated the ‘Let’s Meet’ night club in the city’s Aliganj area on Sunday evening. He attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the nightclub which is located on the second floor of Jeet Plaza near Ram Ram Bank crossing in Aliganj.

However, the Unnao BJP MP has hit back saying that he was tricked into doing so. Sakshi Maharaj said, “I was told by former UP state president Rajjan Singh that it was a restaurant owned by his son-in-law. I agreed.” He said that it was after inauguration that he realized that it was a bar. Speaking to TOI on the same, he said that he has also sought the license of the club since he wasn’t just and MP but a religious ascetic who is supposed to keep away from such things.

The inauguration of a night club by the Unnao BJP MP has become controversial as the country remains outraged with the recent Unnao and Kathua rape cases. This incident got all the more highlighted and hit headlines as there has been a country-wide outrage over the rape of a woman by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and death of her father in judicial custody in Unnao itself.

This is the not the first time that Sakshi Maharaj has made headlines. He is known to have made vulgar remarks like “Girls and boys’ vulgar behaviour at public places leads to rape and they should be put behind bars”. He had also spoken in  support of  Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Insan, who is a rape convict and currently serving a jail term. This is not the end. Sakshi Maharaj actually came into limelight two years ago, when he said “Hindu women to have at least four children.”
