Blore Man Tweets while stuck in burning Carlton TowersCheats Death, uses WiFi
Kiran Jonnalagadda, a Twitter user from Bangalore, who was frustrated with the escalating fire crisis in the Carlton Towers in the city and the ineptitude of the firemen on Tuesday afternoon began tweeting from where he was trapped. He even took pictures of the smoke engulfing the building and posted it on his Twitter account. What's more, he was reporting about the proceedings at the burning building in real time over the micro blogging site. 'Carlton Towers is burning and six of us are trapped inside. The fire's above but there's smoke everywhere. Saw people jump to their death. http://ping.fm/p/DIQQv - Fire at Carlton Towers. Don't call me folks, you can't help. Will keep posting.' Kiran then put up a picture of the buiding with this Tweet - 'waiting to be rescued'. But the most shocking of his tweets was this one - 'http://ping.fm/p/qUno2 - Our rescue ladder. It'll only reach the fourth floor. We're on the fifth.' Kiran maintained his sense of humour throughout with gems like 'A Corner House treat to whoever gets a picture of me looking out of the window. Seriously, people, there's no need to panic. Bad for you' and 'http://ping.fm/p/7gxrg - Heard it's not a fire, just an electric short-circuit. Only smoke (itself quite dangerous).' When he was rescued Kiran was understandably upset and tired, 'Cycling home. Won't take calls. Please feel free to use my pictures as needed.' he tweeted. 'I've lost count of how many interviews I've done already. Not doing any more unless it's a known person.' Kiran witnessed more than ten people jump out of the building, some landed on the fire brigade cloth while others landed on the ground. 'I saw people jump on the cloth and get carried away to an ambulance. Couldn't see through the smoke if they were unharmed. To the unlucky souls whose only respite was jumping six floors onto hard concrete: rest in peace.' he Tweeted. Nine people died while 50 others were injured in the fire. And why would he Tweet when his life was in danger? Kiran answered the query with this - 'We were trapped in a corner where there was nothing to do but wait. Only a moron would tweet when they should be running.' He left the best for the last - 'All this media attention is being a lot more stressful than the fire itself.' he tweeted. His bio now on his Twitter page is 'Professional early adopter with toasted fingers.' February 23, 2010
