New Delhi, April 4: Union Minister Ananth Kumar on Wednesday said that BJP-NDA MPs have decided not to take salary and allowances for 23 days as the Parliament did not function owing to the continuous protests by the Congress and other political parties over various issues. He made this statement while talking to reporters late in the evening.

As tweeted by a news agency ANI, Kumar said that BJP-NDA MPs have decided to not take salary & allowances for 23 days as the parliament has not been functional. This money is given to serve the people & if we are not able to do so we have no right to take the people’s money.

He blamed opposition for the continuous protest and said, “It’s because of Congress’s undemocratic politics that Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha have not been functional. We’re ready to talk about all the issues but they are not letting the houses function.”

The second half of the Budget Session will end on April 6 and the session is heading towards a washout. With continuous protests by opposition parties on a range of issues, the current session has become one of the least productive in the 16th Lok Sabha. No significant business has been transacted either by Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha in the last 18 days.

Both the Houses of Parliament have been witnessing disruptions over different issues, including demands for special status to Andhra Pradesh, setting up of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) and the multi-thousand crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud since March 5 when Parliament reassembled for the budget session after recess.

While the Congress has been accusing the government of running away from issues, Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ananth Kumar targeted the grand old party, saying its MPs were disrupting the House since the start of the budget session.
