New Delhi, Mar 13: Nothing is too difficult if you set your heart to it and Om Paithane, a former cab drive-turned-army officer just proves this. Paithane became a source of inspiration for thousands of aspirants hoping  to crack the exam.

The 26-year-old was recently felicitated by his coach Lt Col Balu at an event where youth got to interact with him. Paithane cleared the Services Selection Board exam (SSB) in his first attempt. Aspirants who met Lt. Col Om Paithane seemed ecstatic on listening to the latter’s inspiring journey from being a cab driver to an army officer. Paithane shared his success mantra with the aspirants saying one must take pride in what one does and give one’s 100 percent to it. His message was simple and clear- Be confident and take pride in whatever you do.
Showering praise on him, Paithane’s coach Lt. Col Balu said he approached him 18 months ago with the zeal to join the Indian Army. He added that whatever Paithane had achieved was a result of his hard work.

Paithane’s tenacity and willingness to do something for his motherland had always been there, said his childhood friend Rahul Bhalerao. But he did not have it easy. Hailing from a humble background, he had to earn his livelihood and support his family too so when his friend Rahul bought a car to be used as a cab, Paithane was more than willing to work as a cab driver during the night. “I used to drive the cab during the day and Paithane drove it in the night,” Rahul said.

As fate would have it, it is during one such cab journey that turned the tables for good. Paithane met an army officer and got to know about the SSB examination and the Officer’s Training Academy in Chennai. He started preparing for the exam and also cleared it in the first attempt. After that, he underwent rigorous training at OTA academy in Chennai for a year and is now awaiting his first posting.

Paithane’s sheer courage and determination helped him soar high and turn his dreams into reality.
