Bijapur, Apr 9: Two security personnel were killed and five got injured when Maoists blew up a vehicle carrying a police party, using an improvised explosive device (IED) in Bijapur’s Kutru area. Bijapur’s special DG, DM Awasthi has confirmed the report.

The troops of  CRPF’s 85th Battalion and jawans of Chattisgarh police had been out for area domination when two IED blasts occurred. An exchange of fire ensued in the forest area between Mahadev Ghati and Chinnabodkel in Bijapur between Maoists and soldiers of the CRPF.

Earlier today, security personnel found a live improvised explosive device during search operations. The explosive device was diffused immediately.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Bijapur next week.

The incident comes days after a security force personnel was injured in an IED blast here in Chinnakorepal village of the district.
