Cho Ramaswamy, old friend of Jayalalithaa, dies at 82

A day after former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa's death, political analyst and close advisor to Jayalalithaa Cho Ramaswamy passed away at Apollo Hospitals.

Cho Ramaswamy, old friend of Jayalalithaa, dies at 82

Chennai,Dec 7: A day after former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa’s death, political analyst and close advisor to Jayalalithaa Cho Ramaswamy passed away at Apollo Hospitals due to cardiac arrest. Srinivasa Iyer Ramaswamy, also known as Cho Ramaswamy, was an actor, comedian, character actor, editor, political satirist, playwright and dialogue writer, film director and lawyer in Tamil Nadu. Cho Ramaswamy was undergoing treatment for a prolonged time for breathing difficulties. He was 82.

Cho Ramaswamy breathed his last at 4:15am at Apollo Hospitals on Wednesday, where he was admitted in ICU, pretty close to where Jayalalithaa was admitted. He is survived by his wife, a son and daughter. Multi-talented Cho Ramaswamy a fearless campaigner against injustice and corruption. Cho Ramaswamy was perhaps the only man Jayalalithaa admired unreservedly and sought counsel whenever she found herself in trouble.

Cho Ramaswamy acted in 89 movies alongside famous artists, 15 plays, directed 5 movies and written the screenplay for 5 movies in his career. The political satirist was also founder and editor of Thuglak magazine. Cho Ramaswamy’s Thuglak magazine was the fierce critic of M Karunanidhi and the DMK- which hugely helped Jayalalithaa with the middle-class and upper caste voters.
