New Delhi, July 17: Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi has started his preparations before his coronation as the party president when Sonia Gandhi decides to hang her gloves. According to reports, he has started to form a new team from the scratch, which may see a lot of fresh faces, whereas many bigwigs will have their wings clipped. Media reports say that Rahul Gandhi has assigned responsibilities to many of his new team members.
According to the Hindustan, in the last few months, Rahul Gandhi has brought about many structural changes in the All India Congress Committee (AICC). He has implemented a new formula that entails that one leader would be made the in-charge of just one state. With this formula, the pressure on general secretaries bearing the burden of many states eased off. With this decision, many big leaders role was also curtailed which includes Digvijaya Singh.
Rahul Gandhi has a clear motive behind the rejig–he wants to give the young leaders more chance to showcase their talent. He also wants to strike a balance between youth and experience. Perhaps, that is the reason why he made Ashok Gehlot the in-charge for Gujarat and RPN Singh has been entrusted with organisational work. According to the report, he has also assigned two secretaries for every in-charge. So far, he has made 20 young leaders secretaries to the in-charges. With Rahul Gandhi’s one state-one in-charge formula, the stature of leaders like CP Joshi, Mukul Wasnik, Digvijaya Singh, and Ambika Soni, will diminish significantly.
The Congress party is struggling to keep afloat with a spate of losses since its loss in 2014 General Election. The party has been losing in various state elections. Recently, despite emerging as the single largest party, Congress failed to form the government in Goa. Digvijaya Singh was the in-charge for the negotiations. The party is trying to stitch a pan-India alliance with other anti-BJP parties.
