New Delhi, Dec 8: Amid continuous concerns over the ever moving cyclone Ockhi, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued fresh warnings of heavy rains likely in Odisha from Friday. According to the predictions the eastern state will be likely lashed by rains coupled with wind.

The warning said more than ten districts of Odisha are likely to be lashed by heavy rains coupled with squally winds from Friday due to a depression over Bay of Bengal. As per reports, the depression over southeast Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood moved northwards at a speed of about 35 kmph during on Thursdat and lay centred about 870 km southeast of Gopalpur.

The IMD further said the system is likely to move north-northwestwards and reach north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts around the morning of December 9. It said the system is likely to intensify further into a deep depression in the next 24 hours.

Heavy rain likely in coastal Gangetic Bengal tomorrow, the IMD said. The met department in its forecast on Thursday also predicted heavy rain in the coastal areas of Gangetic West Bengal on Friday owing to formation of a depression in the Bay of Bengal.

According to reports, the districts of East Midnapore, West Midnapore, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas and Howrah are likely to receive heavy rain on Friday as well. Regional MET Director G K Das said, “Moderate rain bordering on the higher side is likely to occur in Kolkata tomorrow.” He further added that moderate rain may occur in the city on Saturday as well as in the coastal districts.
