Mumbai, Nov 13: The Ministry of Finance under SAFEMA (Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators) Forfeiture of Properties Act will auction three properties belonging to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim on Tuesday. The auction will be conducted at 10 am by a private auctioneering firm at Indian Merchant Chambers (IMC) Churchgate through E-Auction and public auction.
The three properties belonging to Dawood Ibrahim which will be auctioned on Tuesday have been identified as – Ronak Afroz Restaurant, Damarwala Building and Shabnam Guest House.
Shabnam Guest house is a two storey building on Yakub Street, Bhendi Bazar. If sources are to be believed, the property was bought in name of Dawood’s first wife Mehjabeen. The Reserve price kept for present auction is Rs 1 crore 23 lakh, 43 thousand.
Damarwala building was home to Dawood Ibrahim and his family members in late eighties. Ibrahim’s close aide, Kaskar, after being released from jail was staying in this building and conducting operations of D Gang. The Reserve price now kept for the property Rs 1 crore 55 lakh 76 thousand.
Ronak Afroz restaurant went under hammer in 2015. It’s bid was won by a former journalist, S Balakrishnan, who couldn’t raise the bid amount which was Rs 4.28 crore. Hence, the property is being auctioned again. Balakrishnan had also claimed that he received a threat asking him to withdraw from the auction. The Reserve price now kept for the property is Rs 1 crore 18 lakh 63 thousand.
Dawood Ibrahim is currently in Pakistan. His brother Iqbal Kaskar was arrested recently in an extortion case.
