New Delhi, April 14: A student from the School of Social Sciences department of the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) accused a professor of molestation on Saturday. The incident comes to light just days after students protested and demanded the suspension of professor Atul Johri for sexual harassment allegations leveled against him. A case has been registered against the concerned professor in the Vasant Kunj police station and a probe has been initiated at the earliest.

Earlier in the month of March, 9 girls from the JNU leveled charges against professor Atul Johri for sexually harassing them. The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) and the All India Mahila Sanskritik Sanghatan, had then protested and carried a demonstration outside the police station demanding professor Johri’s arrest. In the aftermath of the unfortunate incident, a complaint was registered by the Delhi police but soon after Johri was released on bail and was directed by the Delhi court to pay a bail bond of Rs 30,000. What was more outrageous that students protesting against the shameful incident were warned of consequences by the vice chancellor of the university. Moreover, during the protests, several female journalists had also been manhandled by the Delhi police. The Delhi assembly later passed a resolution and asked the Delhi government to provide lawyers to the victims of the Atul Johri molestation case in JNU. It also appointed special public prosecutors for the same.

The incident has been reported at a time when two of the most brutal rape incidents- Kathua and Unnao have created a furore in the country.
