New Delhi, Oct 12: The Delhi High Court on Thursday set aside the disciplinary action against 15 students including ex-JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar after February 9, 2016, event that had made the national headlines.
Justice VK Rao sent back the issue to Jawaharlal Nehru University(JNU) to be decided again after the accused students go through the records.
The students had contested that the JNU administration didn’t give them the opportunity to defend themselves against the charge of indiscipline. The court asked the administration to pass a reasoned order within six weeks of hearing the students.
The students had challenged their punishment as well. Some were rusticated, while some were chucked out of the university hostel. While Umar Khalid was rusticated till December this year, Anirban Bhattacharya was thrown out for five years.
Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, and Anirban Bhattacharya were arrested in a sedition case for raising anti-India slogans in JNU campus on February 9. They were released on bail. The police are yet to file the charge sheet.
