Donald Trump-Narendra Modi meet in US: Will Modi survive the ‘Trump-handshake’?
It will be interesting to witness the handshakes between the two political heavyweights.
Washington, June 25: Known for his firm grip with other counterparts, President of the United States of America Donald Trump will be handshaking with Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the Sunday Evening. Many leaders and dignitaries including Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe were seen with the imprint of Trump’s fingers. However, the gesture was criticised in his own country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi too is known for heavy hands. It will be interesting to witness the handshakes between the two political heavyweights.Many people in both the countries are expecting a cordial meet between two leaders. They are expected to address a number of issues including the manufacturing of fighter jet F-16 in India along with cut in the number H1B Visas to Indian students and professionals.
Trump will host Modi at the White House on Monday afternoon and the two leaders would spend about five hours together in various settings beginning with their bilateral discussion, delegation level talks, a reception and a working dinner, the first of its kind hosted by this administration.
The two leaders will not address a press conference but will issue individual press statements.
Earlier, a senior administration official said the visit is an opportunity to strengthen the US-India strategic partnership, which Trump very much views as a critical partnership in promoting stability and security in the Asia Pacific region and globally.
“We anticipate that their discussions will be broad- ranging, hitting on a variety of regional and global issues that would seek to advance our common priorities, including fighting terrorism, promoting economic growth and prosperity,” the official said, briefing reporters at the White House.
