Earthquake of magnitude 4.8 jolts Andaman Islands, no damage reported

Andaman, Dec 4: An earthquake measuring 4.8 on Richter Scale jolted Andaman Islands earlier today. According to meteorological department, the earthquake occurred at around 1:12 AM at a depth of 29 kilometer. No loss of life, injury or damage to property has been reported. More details are awaited.

The Andaman Islands form an archipelago in the Bay of Bengal between India, to the west, and Myanmar, to the north and east. The entire island chain is also susceptible to tsunamis both from large local quakes and also from massive distant shocks.
