Eid Moon sighted across India, Eid-al-Fitr to be celebrated tomorrow

New Delhi, June 25: Eid moon sighting in India, along with Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and other parts of South Asian subcontinent would be held today. The zonal bodies of Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in India would deploy their personnel across the states to sight the crescent moon of Shawwal, marking the end of Ramzan. If the moon is sighted today, Eid-al-Fitr would be celebrated tomorrow. In case of the crescent being invisible, Eid would be observed on Tuesday. Stay tuned above for all the live and latest updates on Eid Moon sighting from across the different parts of India.

Considering the geographic size of India and Pakistan, there is a possibility of Eid moon being sighted in some states, whereas, other regions would celebrate the festival on Tuesday. However, in smaller countries like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the moon sighted in any part would be suffice to celebrate Eid across the country on Monday.

In the sub-continent, sectarian divide has been witnessed earlier even in the sighting of crescent moon. On multiple occasions in the past few decades, the Shia and Sunni committees have celebrated Eid on differing dates. However, such differences are unusual.

Except for the state of Kerala, the rest of India embraced Ramadan on May 28, as per the 30th moon of the Islamic month Shaban. In Kerala, Eid was celebrated today, as the Shawwal moon was spotted in the coastal state on Saturday. Along with Kerala, Eid-al-Fitr was celebrated in the Middle East region as well.

India, with a total population of roughly 20 crore Muslims, houses the second largest number of people practicing Islam. It is the only nation in the world where believers of all major and minor sects within Islam reside. The country would be celebrating a national holiday tomorrow if the crescent moon is sighted.
