Chennai, Feb 17: After hearing the plea of veteran All India Anna Dravid Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader Dr V Maitreyan and Rajya Sabha Member Sasikala Pushpa, the Election Commission on Friday issued a notice to imprisoned party supremo Sasikala Natarajan over her elevation to the post of general secretary.

The development comes as a shocker to Sasikala faction in the AIADMK ahead of the assembly floor test on Saturday. The rebel faction led by O Panneerselvam has questioned the validity of her office after the Supreme Court verdict. Former party Presidium Chairman E Madhusudhanan has also appealed for an enquiry by the Election Commission in the matter. In an earlier development, the former Presidium chairman Sasikala Natarajan along with her nephew TTV Dinakaran and relative Venkatesh from their respective party posts who were reinducted into the party after the Supreme Court announced Sasikala guilty in DA case on February 14. Madhusudanan was replaced with KA Sengottaiyan by Sasikala after he joined the Panneerselvam camp on February 10.

Madhusudhanan accused Sasikala of violating her promise to late Jayalalithaa. He alleged, “VK Sasikala is being removed from the party’s primary membership for going against the party principles and ideals, and having violated her promise to Amma (Jayalalithaa), besides facing criminal cases.
