Patna, October 26: Some unidentified men entered a Hindi journalist’s house and shot him dead on point blank range on Saturday evening. According to a report by India Today, some unknown people barged inside the house of Mithilesh Pandey, in Paraiya block of Kashta village in Gaya district and shot him. He died on the spot.
Pandey was working with Dainik Jagran. He had been receiving threats for quite some time now and he had even informed the police about the issue, according to Pandey’s relatives. “A reporter of Dainik Jagran named Mithilesh Pandey has been shot dead by unidentified person. We have started the investigation. We will try to arrest the culprits as soon as possible,” SSP Gaya, Manu Maharaj was quoted as saying by India Today. The deceased relative Umesh Pandey told reporters, “Around 2-3 people with their faces covered entered the house and shot Mithilesh while he was sleeping. I was not at home. I was sitting outside but when I heard the sound of the bullet, I rushed to the house to see him lying in a pool of blood. We took him to a hospital nearby but he was dead by then.”
Pandey’s is the fifth murder of a journalist in the country in the current year. Before this, Hemant Yadav, who was working with news channel TV24, was shot by two people on a motorcycle on the night of Oct 3 at Dheena locality of Chandauli district. Yadav was then taken to the hospital, were he succumbed to his injuries. Prior to that, Than based Raghavendra Dube, was murdered in July and Jagendra Singh from UP and Sandeep Kothari from Madhya Pradesh were murdered in separate incidents in June.
