New Delhi, June 20: The Goods and Service Tax (GST)’s launch is round the corner. The biggest tax reforms in the country since independence will be implemented on July 1 and the government is ready. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had recently said that there would be no delay in the implementation of GST.
Arun Jaitley on Monday addressed a press conference and said that GST is ready for its rollout. He said all the state governments have already put in place the legal framework required for its implementation. But Kerala and Jammu and Kashmir have still not done it. He said Kerala will do that in a week.
The Finance Minister spelt out the details of the pre-launch and launch functions. He said that the launch function will happen in Parliament’s Central Hall. All the Finance Ministers of all the states of the country will be present. Invites will be sent to chief ministers as well. Members of the GST council will also be present. The official launch will happen on June 30 midnight. President Pranab Mukherjee will grace the occasion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Speaker Lok Sabha Sumitra Mahajan, and two former Prime Ministers–Manmohan Singh and HD Deve Gowda– will also be present in the function.
